Superintendent's Message

March Message
We are now into March and I have some important information to talk to you about.

First, every March we observe Women's History Month, where we celebrate the contributions of women throughout American history. It was established in 1987 as a reminder to recognize women's achievements in various fields, from science and politics to social justice and the arts to name a few. It's a chance to honor figures like Susan B. Anthony, who fought for women's suffrage, or Marie Curie, a scientific pioneer who defied gender barriers in pursuing groundbreaking research. We will have many activities, read stories, and complete projects in our classes to highlight many achievements of women.

Second, in our math classes, we will be celebrating Pi Day on March 14th when we look at the uniqueness of Pi being a non-repeating/non-terminating decimal and how it is used for mathematical computations. Some of the activities will be eating pie or pizza and trying to recite as many digits of Pi as possible.

Third, your child’s mid-marking period reports are available in the Parent Portal of Realtime. This is a snapshot of your child’s academic progress at this time. If you have any concerns please call your child’s school or email the teacher to have a conversation for recommendations towards improvement.

Fourth, we returned to Daylight Savings on Sunday, March 10th. Please remember to set your clocks ahead one hour. Since we lose an hour it may take some time for our children to adjust to the time change.

Fifth, every March, we celebrate National Reading Month, dedicated to the joy and importance of reading for people of all ages. This month kicked off with Read Across America Day on March 2nd, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. He was a beloved children's author famous for his many characters and catchy rhymes. His books are a perfect gateway to the world of literature, and create a love of reading. We encourage everyone to pick up a book, revisit old favorites, or discover new adventures.

Finally, as the daylight grows longer and it gets warmer, I want to extend a warm spring greeting from all of us here at the North Bergen School District. Hopefully, winter's chill has passed, and with it, we head into the final stretch of the school year. I want to express my sincere gratitude for the continued partnership and effort of our teachers, support staff, and administrators. Also, your involvement in your child's education is paramount, and your presence at school events plays a vital role in their success.

 Thank you.

Dr. George J. Solter Jr.
